Andrea Valencia

Abya Yala feminist
 artist

Andrea Valencia is a visual artist from Colombia. As a feminist activist and art teacher, her work explores the common thread in the different processes in women's history.
Women around the world share a common past: founding myths, histories and acts of violence.
Their paintings, paper crafts and artistic interventions explore the holistic construction of "the feminine", through forms and symbolism that construct their own visual alphabet.

Ancestrality plays a fundamental role in his research process. In his artworks, xamanic symbolism and a palette of saturated psychedelic colours are key to a path that meticulously revisits her identity roots.
Tenically her artworks pass through a myriad of possibilities: painting, textile art, paper craft works are made by combining watercolour, gouche, embroidery and paper elements, to create a work that is visually linked to our ancestral past.
Valencia holds a degree in Fine Arts from Bellas Artes, Cali, Colombia, a postgraduate degree in Visual anthropology from the Universidad Icesi, Cali, Colombia and a master's degree in Women's studies from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal.
Her solo last shows include The Colective Dream (2018), The unimaginable woman 2019 and The Vision 2022 in Portugal.
Valencia offers workshops to women in Germany, Portugal, Italy, France and Colombia.
She lives and works in Lisbon, Portugal.
